Prayer IV: Prayer of Two

Coaching

Jesus says that whatever we ask for in prayer, we should have. Yet often that’s not our personal experience. We’ve discussed that sometimes prayers are not answered because we’ve not forgiven someone, or we harbor unconfessed sin, or even that we lack faith in a good God that would want to bless us with the desires of our hearts. Today, I want to address the fourth thing that I personally know of that can hinder our prayers:

Lack of support. Sometimes, we just need more than one person praying. We need a few more voices raised in agreement with us. Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:19:

Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.

For some reason, there is more power in the prayer of two. If this is so, how much more power would three have?

Though I have some ideas about why this is so, I’m really not sure. I only know that I’ve seen this principle at work in my own life. For years I prayed for my dad to get saved. Individually. Then, one day, my sister-in-law and I were talking on the phone when she said, “Let’s pray together every week for him to get saved.” So, she called me once a week and we prayed for my dad. He got saved that very year.

I’ve heard stories of people whose child was on his deathbed with the family earnestly praying over him to no avail. Yet, when they enlisted the prayers of other prayer warriors —people who were truly committed to and believed in the efficacy of prayer—within hours the child was well.

We need the prayer of two or more.

Perhaps you aren’t seeing answers to your deepest needs because you need to confide in someone else. Confide in someone who is a true prayer warrior, someone who knows God answers prayers and knows it well. Someone who loves the Lord and wants to see you succeed. Even Moses needed the support of Aaron and Hur, men who held up his arms so that the battle would be won and God’s people would have the victory. If Moses needed the support of others, how much more do we?

Raising Self-Motivated Children

Self-motivated, wise passiveness, masterly inactivity

We all want our children to be self-motivated. To take control. To be resourceful. And to be motivated to get it done—whatever it is. Especially school work! MASTERLY INACTIVITY When our children aren’t self motivated, we become frustrated, discouraged and even anxious. As usual, Charlotte Mason has the answer to our worries!  It’s a tenet she calls Masterly Inactivity and it’s the key to developing self-reliant, resourceful children who possess a long range motivation that endures far beyond our homeschool. There are 7 essential elements of Masterly Activity. Here we’ll discuss the most important element: WISE PASSIVENESS Wise passiveness is […]
